Course Overview
AP Statistics B builds on the foundation of Part A by focusing on advanced statistical inference and data-based reasoning. This second-semester course emphasizes the art of drawing conclusions from imperfect data and strengthens students' ability to critically evaluate research in everyday life.
Key Learning Focus
Students will:
- Apply confidence intervals and hypothesis testing to analyze claims.
- Conduct chi-square tests, t-tests, and regression analyses to evaluate relationships between variables.
- Investigate statistical inference in real-world contexts, from medicine to political science.
- Practice interpreting and critiquing authentic research examples with attention to bias, error, and reliability.
- Prepare thoroughly for the AP® Statistics Exam with practice in multiple-choice and free-response formats.
Instructional Approach
Instruction includes hands-on projects, statistical software or graphing utilities, peer discussions, and AP-style assessments that require students to synthesize and justify their conclusions.
Outcome
By the end of AP Statistics B, students will:
- Demonstrate proficiency in designing and analyzing research studies.
- Evaluate the validity and reliability of real-world data and research claims.
- Communicate statistical reasoning effectively in written and oral formats.
- Be fully prepared for success on the AP® Statistics Exam and for advanced study in statistics, science, medicine, engineering, business, or social sciences.
