Course Overview

AP Spanish Language and Culture B builds upon the foundation of Part A, further refining advanced language skills and cultural competencies. This second-semester course prepares students to communicate effectively in formal and informal settings, with an emphasis on synthesis, interpretation, and persuasive expression across the AP thematic framework.

Key Learning Focus

Students will:

• Expand their command of complex language structures and idiomatic expressions.
• Strengthen writing skills through persuasive essays, cultural comparisons, and formal correspondence.
• Enhance listening and speaking proficiency with authentic audio sources, debates, and oral presentations.
• Explore cultural contexts within the themes of Global Challenges, Science and Technology, and Beauty and Aesthetics.
• Integrate vocabulary and grammar mastery into nuanced, real-world communication.

Instructional Approach

The course uses authentic texts, multimedia sources, cultural investigations, and AP-style free-response and multiple-choice practice, helping students achieve proficiency across all modes of communication.

Outcome

By the end of AP Spanish Language and Culture B, students will:

• Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Spanish, across interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes.
• Analyze and compare cultural products, practices, and perspectives in Spanish-speaking communities.
• Be thoroughly prepared for success on the AP® Spanish Language and Culture Exam and for continued study of Spanish language, literature, and culture at the college level.
