Course Overview

AP Spanish Language and Culture A is the first part of a college-level sequence designed to help students achieve proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish in a variety of contexts. This course introduces students to the six overarching themes of the AP curriculum and emphasizes communication, fluency, and cultural understanding.

Key Learning Focus

Students will:

• Strengthen vocabulary, grammar, and usage through immersive practice.
• Develop skills in reading comprehension of authentic Spanish texts and media.
• Practice oral communication through conversations, role-play, and presentations.
• Explore cultural contexts within the themes of Families and Communities, Personal and Public Identities, and Contemporary Life.


• Build confidence in using common and complex verb forms and tenses in both spoken and written Spanish.

Instructional Approach

Students engage in interactive activities, listening exercises, literary and cultural analysis, and AP-style practice tasks, with an emphasis on functional communication and cultural insight.

Outcome

By the end of AP Spanish Language and Culture A, students will:
