Course Overview

AP Psychology introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. Equivalent to an introductory college-level survey course, this class explores the theories, research methods, and applications of psychology. Students examine the biological bases of behavior, sensation and perception, learning, cognition, development, and social interactions, while also investigating mental health, psychological disorders, and therapeutic approaches.

Key Learning Focus

Students will:

  • Explore research methods, experimental design, and ethical considerations in psychology.
  • Study the biological foundations of behavior, including brain structure, neural communication, and sensory systems.
  • Investigate major psychological perspectives and theories of learning, memory, motivation, and emotion.
  • Examine lifespan development, personality, and social behavior, including altruism, aggression, intimacy, and self-reflection.
  • Analyze the causes and treatments of psychological disorders and the role of professional therapy and counseling.

Instructional Approach
